the 'what if's

Can't help but think 'what if' this this this and that that that happened and 'what if' this this this and that that that didn't happen sometimes. Yet such regrets we can only make them the Lord's.

Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.

Dad: "You sure you don't want cotton bud? I only have cotton bud."
Me: "HAHA DAD, nevermind I'll go check with Nai Nai. I meant those kinda cotton wool they use to clean their nail polish or sth?"

Incorrect servanthood attitude, but God pardons all sins. No sin is greater than his love. His love that comes in mysterious yet amazing ways.

running the race
Monday, January 19, 2009 @ 5:58 PM
I subscribed to daily verses at http://www.heartlight.org/ awhile ago and it's been blessing me everytime I check my email. Be blessed as well! (I usually post when I check my email since blogger and gmail are linked, yay and that's when I'll be prompted to share certain verses with y'all :)) The verses are almost always timely. All is perfect in God's timing.

Life's how you look at it. Our perceptions matter 100% (like attitude does) but the love of God overpowers everything else huh. "And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us." -Romans 5:5

"THOUGHT:
Hope has become such a "wimpy" term in modern vocabulary. It hardly qualifies as an adequate translation of the meaning in most New Testament passages. Hope is the assurance that what we believe will happen. We could call it spiritual confidence. We have that spiritual confidence because more than just a wish, more than just an emotion, more than just a belief rests in our hearts; God himself lives in us through his Holy Spirit. When we become Christians, Jesus pours out the Spirit upon us (Titus 3:3-7) as God's gift to us (Acts 2:38; 5:32) to cleanse us (1 Cor. 6:11), make us part of the same Body (1 Cor. 12:12-13), and live inside us (1 Cor. 6:19-20). Paul adds one more thing to that list of blessings from God's presence within us -- God's love. We don't just have it; God keeps refreshing it through the Holy Spirit, just as Jesus had promised (John 7:37-39)."

It's because of that hope we have in God (Isaiah 40:28-31) we live our lives in such ways. Praise Him above all!

I think 'Lord I offer my life to you's a very anointed song for us sec 4s. Somehow.
Lord, I offer my life to you
Everything I've been through
Use it for your glory
Lord I offer my days to you
Lifting my praise to you
as a pleasing sacrifice

I can't help but laugh. Praise God I managed to sit down for the longest time ever without getting tempted today. Shall get back to homework (go into hibernation and mug, ha) now.

Looking forward to tomorrow! Light rays and lenses make me happy (this is a good sign that I'm beginning to love physics and shall do well in it. ;)).

Almighty God my redeemer
My hiding place my safe refuge, no other name like Jesus
No power can stand against You.

Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
Psalm 37:4

I'll do anything to get there. To get to where He wants me to be, to get to where it (I) will glorify Him. To where my grandparents, parents will be honoured, to where I will have no regrets. Start working, Gillian, have faith and accept the gift of His grace, mercy, love and strength.

no dead end with God leading the way
Wednesday, January 14, 2009 @ 10:14 PM
I've been wondering how difficult it is to let go of certain things and letting God, to not place such expectations on myself that adds pressure rather than motivation, to not be influenced by the world/what others' think ("Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will." -Romans 12:2)...

I shall have to start working hard because labour yields reward and result. Everyone has the natural desire to do well huh but doing well doesn't come easy. We need to do our part before God can do His.

Since I've never once completely fulfilled all my new year resolutions, I'm gonna make this one work out for His glory. Time management and setting priorities right, keeping healthy (physically/emotionally), continue to serve God, stronger hold onto God's promises, more thanksgiving, more discernment... Ha, now that sounds like requests and desires rather than resolutions! But God knows them. Who else but He knows our hearts? None.

I'll be blogging less now and hopefully not be distracted as easily as I am now by the very tempting internet (HAHA). Will do journalling in my scrapbook instead, together with photos that'll prayerfully also help with english. Yay!

Don't let the fighting spirit die down, don't give up on the spiritual drive and growing spiritually, press in, press on and be still, know that He is God (Psalm 46:10a).

For "If God is for us, who can be against us?" Romans 8:31b

Off I go, take care y'all!

BLESSED BIRTHDAY BENAVON! :)

As it always is with God's perfect timing, chanced upon this:
"Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture." - Psalm 100:3

He made us. "Made us with his loving care with a purpose for life and a promise to be with us every step of the way. God cares for us, much better than even the very best shepherd cares for his sheep. So let's live as those who know our Leader, Creator, and King! Let's display his character, share his grace, extend his mercy and offer his forgiveness."
Gotta show we belong to Him.

Whatever it is there's no such thing as withdrawing your faith and service once you step into His kingdom. I hate to experience spiritual dryness tho' inevitable. Really.

Heartiest congratulatns to all seniors and friends for your O's results!

Chinese New Year soon, so soon. Time flies but we know who holds time.上帝祝福满满。

Yes I will run the race
Till I see Your face
Oh let me live in the glory

(Not so) Random conversations.

Lunch (good fellowship) with Lujia, Jov, Aunt Evelyn, Uncle Stanley & others who came by later on:
"I don't want you already lah, you don't have to stick with me. Just stick with the rest..." - Dad (walking away)
"Hahaha! Aiya, he's always like that one lah." - Jovial

"Your dad doesn't want you? Tell him we will buy you over! Then Eunice'll have a "伴"." - Aunty Lindy (in mandarin)
"Haha! Just tell your dad you want to cross over." - Uncle/Pastor Jon
"Yes Gillian! Come over, then we'll have an extra maid." - Eunice (obviously jokingly)
"You might as well come over to my place where you'll be treated like a princess! Why do you want to be treated like a maid in their house (pointing to Eu)?" - Aunty Jenny/Abigail
"Yes kiddo, then as a last solution you can go over to Ah Bu's. That's your last choice." - Jovial

"Hey Dad, so will you be in school when I collect my O's results?"
"It's not even the full result yet."
"I meant next year lah."
"I go for what?"
"I don't know, just be there for me?"
"Okay, if you can show me 9 distinctions for your prelims, I promise you I'll be there next year when you collect your results."

Very blessed and loved huh. Got everything to thank God for 'cos all good things come from him! O's results tomorrow, we just gotta thank God if we do well and thank Him even if we don't.

the unknown
Thursday, January 08, 2009 @ 9:54 PM
Abstract from "1001 Quotes, Illustrations & Humourous Stories for preachers, teachers & writers" - Edward K. Rowell & Leadership Journal. (courtesy of Dad):
An Arab chief tells the story of a spy captured and sentenced to death by a general in the Persian army. This general had the strange custom of giving condemned criminals a choice between the firing squad and "the big, black door."
The moment for execution drew near, and guards brought the spy to the Persian general. "What will it be," asked the general, "the firing squad or 'the big, black door'?"
The spy hesitated for a long time. Finally he chose the firing squad.
A few minutes later, hearing the shots ring out confirming the spy's execution, the general turned to his aide and said, "They always prefer the known to the unknown. People fear what they don't know. Yet, we gave him a choice."
"What lies beyond the big door?" asked the aide.
"Freedom," replied the general. "I've known only a few brave enough to take that door."
The best opportunities in our lives stand behind the forbidding door of the great unknown.

Anyway I'm feeling the 'heat' already. Only 4 days (officially) into the new school term and I feel I'm starting to get tied down. But I'll not leave out what's important (personal free time, QT). Every burden I surrender to my Best Friend.
I'm learning new things everyday - from people around me, things that happen, school and that's what enriching life's about huh! We should all take a step at a time and enjoy sec 4 :)

Thankful my daily ramblings have a place to be in.

Thanks to all who extended their congratulations for my baptism! (For thoughts, flowers & gifts) :) (Adulto/Aunt Eve, Uncle Stanley, Aunty Lindy, Aunty Lijuan, Lujia, Eunice Koo, Hokkien music min, Uncle Johnson, Aunty Abigail/Uncle Sam/Jamie, Uncle Desmond, Aunty Adeline, Aunty Peggy, Vanessa, Yanling, Yuxi, Neville, Caleb, Sabrina, Abigail Tay etc.) I'm very very very blessed and loved! (OH, MY BAPTISM CATALOGUE IS IN MANDARIN! So I don't really understand any of it. Hahaha so much for stating in the list that I'm english-ed!)

To be not-so-happy-sounding, I need to start talking to teachers about stepping down on alot of things. I need to focus on my studies much more. If I may be good/work hard from Mondays to Thursdays and on Saturdays, Ye-ye may not mind as much that I spend my entire fridays & sundays in church. I'll attempt!

Pictures speak a thousand words... (courtesy of nikon D90); here goes the head of the Peck family, lover of stamp-collecting and taking photos of others/flowers (and not being in them). Praying his heart will soften more and more each day, that one day he may come to saving knowledge of God, that soon he'll be secured a place in heaven with our Loving Father. Blessed to have such a grandpa, he's worked hard all his life, he deserves to know God as his personal saviour but we believe God'll move...

the old has gone, the new has come
Saturday, January 03, 2009 @ 12:12 AM
And so it is stated in 2 Corinthians 5:17 that in Christ we're a new creation, that the old has gone and the new has come!

Am very very positive about 2009. Have I mentioned? Thank God.
2008 ended well. To have been ascertained of my identity in Christ was the best thing that has happened. And finding myself in the Hokkien service music ministry was as cool (I have no idea why my vocab's so limited now! Ha!).
I've decided I'll continue to serve (just less) and not procrastinate (as much as I have in past years - we take one step at a time yeah?). I can probably say this would be the first major [will be] 'executed' decision I'll ever make (kinda, so far in the 15+ years of my life). Yes, before major exams. Also for once, I'm doing my best to start the year off well (approaching teachers for help, praying as the new year approached, baptism etc.)

School today was slack, restful (woah, even more of this), fun(ny), pathetic (Clare, Maddy & I played monopoly with no dice, we used paper to make 2 sets of numbers 1 to 6). Blessed to have the same classroom again this year with aircon, which persistently chooses to be lousy & staying in class now feels warmer than staying out WITH THE AIRCON turned on, so that defeats the purpose huh. Maybe 'cos it's the first day! It's amazing how time flies...It's hard to believe I'm Sec 4 already and I'll be writing '4G' on papers from now onwards but everyone (older than I am in terms of school year) have been there and done that. Unavoidable phase, ha!
Social studies & geog tests next monday/tuesday. I scraped thru' history elect (ie. missed the percentage for retest by a teeny weeny bit)! Hallelujah! So I won't be needing to take a retest (Mrs Pandian's our teacher now but a change is always good) I will study, I will. (I'll also do all my homework tomorrow. I'm making this a promise)
Am I already supposed to start preparing for DSA? HC, RIJ, AC? Aiya, I'll just try to get my A1s. Not on my own of course but with God 'cos impossible is nothing with him!

It almost slipped my mind I'm getting baptised this Sunday. V thankful I can carry out this act of obedience now, 'cos it's the right time in God's plan for me to undergo such a life change. As a kid, water baptism would really have been a very 'cool thing' to go thru' huh (like 'drowning',ha)! But maybe I wouldn't have known what it really means. Being baptised in Spirit on...(I think it was) 26th Nov 2005 was the start of it all. Maybe I won't be where I am if not for God's plan to put Xiao-gu/Gu-gu in their current marriages, if I wasn't enrolled into a church kindergarten because of distant cousins.

2009's gonna be a year of change, I'm certain. I want to change myself and my perceptions because I can't change situations/circumstances. There's just so much I want and need to do. I must continue to strengthen my faith and walk closer to God (relationship 'cos serving alone won't make me any stronger spiritually...). I'm praying there'll be revival in MG (it's after all my last year after 9! Ah!), that we may all perform our best in all aspects (as a level)...Alot of things that God knows even without me explicitly listing them out. He sees our hearts and hear our cries. Amen. :)

Habakkuk was a strong, faithful man who had alot of confidence that God was the Sovereign Lord, and no matter what still rejoiced in the Lord ('Rejoice in the Lord always' - Phil 4:4) despite all sorts of obstacles. Also teaches us to let God be God. Habakkuk 3:17 to 19 says:
Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to go on the heights.

God is a real God. The Bible's the Living Word. I having bible verses here really serves as a reminder to me each time, but what's more important is I wanna share the Word that was made possible only because of our Almighty God. There are lessons to learn from all the parables etc and God speaks to us thru' the Scripture. He answers our questions (many times) thru' His Word. It's really cool how everyone hears from God differently - we've all got different gifts, we just needa utilise them and proclaim you're willing to accept them!
“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.” - Psalm 90:12

P.S. I figured I'm a very (bracket) person, I use brackets alot :/ and this post seems to be lacking in smileys so...(gay smileys incoming!) :D :D :D :D :D :D
(H) HAHAHA

To worship You I live,
To worship You I live
I live to worship You

Thursday, January 01, 2009 @ 8:34 PM
I've decided.
"There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the LORD." -Proverbs 21:30
I will walk with God, surrender all my desires and works to Him because I know only then will the coming year be of spiritual success. Receiving the gift of a new year, I'll be committed in serving the LORD (esp. to honour my grandparents and not spend so much time in church but focus and do well in my studies) I'll be in constant prayer, making plans that are made based on the Lord's revealed will in Scripture. Father, I pray you'll give me what I ask, dear Lord, if you'd be glad about it. But if you think it's not for me, help me do without it.

Song close to my heart (for 2009): Still
Hide me now
Under your wings
Cover me
within your mighty hand

When the oceans rise and thunders roar
I will soar with you above the storm
Father you are king over the flood
I will be still and know you are God

Find rest my soul
In Christ alone
Know his power
In quietness and trust

("Be still and know I am God" Psalm 46:10a)

BLESSED NEW YEAR!

Co-workers night was coolios! Very entertaining, but let's not forget the the King and his faithfulness towards us thru' 2008 :) There's always too much to thank God for the things can't be listed, but He sees our hearts - so he knows what we are thankful for and what we are not. I'm just glad I've gone onto another level in terms of spiritual maturity last year ('08) and learnt how to better (still not very good.) manage my time and spend life! Serving God gives whole new meaning to life. Cease striving and surrender yourself to Him and all things will work out even if they seem difficult.

2008 was an eventful, life-changing year and who else can you thank but God for all the good things that happen? It's good to be in reflection at the end of every year but I believe I haven't put aside time for that yet, and I doubt I'll be able to once school starts. But thankfully we can talk to God bit by bit, anytime we like and reflecting when in certain situations works as well as overall reflection.

Many thanks to all friends who've wished me a happy new year personally, via MSN/texts/calls. May God's favour be upon y'all in the new year! :D

Random note: I turn 16 in 38 days! Woah, that's a milestone. Thank you God for protecting, providing and being with me thru' the years! ("For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways" - Psalm 91:11)

"...let the Spirit renew your thoughts and attitudes. Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy." - Ephesians 4:23-24 (NLT)
